I’ve talked a lot about how to improve website traffic, specifically, Search Engine traffic. Unfortunately, as often happens with a subject that is multi-dimensional and often trial and error, many people starting out to make money online find themselves confused and unsure on how to generate site traffic.

In this post I hope to enlighten you in some of the techniques I use in order to improving traffic to website. Many so called Internet Marketers out there would charge you a lot of money for this information, but out of the kindness of my heart, I will give this away for free. I think most of you have already been ripped off enough, and I don’t want to add to the casualties of Internet Marketing.

First of all, if you want to start improving the quality of your website traffic, you need to change your mindset. What I mean by this is you need to start thinking of yourself as an Internet Marketer and not a blogger. This shift in thinking alone will propel you forward. When I first changed hats and became an Internet Marketer as opposed to a blogger, I created a little saying to keep me focused. “Bloggers Make Friends, Internet Marketers make money!” You need to ask yourself, and be totally honest, do you want to share your wisdom with the world, meaning adding your voice to the billions of other voices out there, or do you want to make money? If you answered the former, then I suggest you leave, because this site is quite frankly, not for you. On the other hand, if you said the latter, keep reading.

The second thing that you need to know, to improve web site traffic to your existing site is the following. Before I tell you this secret, let me emphasize, this is possibly the most important thing that you’ll ever read if you are moving over from the world of blogger to IM. You need to make every post count. You need to make every post count, meaning that everything that you write must be researched thoroughly even before you type a single word. What this means is that you need to know which keywords to target, the keyword value, number of searches per month on chosen keyword, keyword competition. Researching your keyword should in-depth, in fact, you should be spending as much time researching keywords as you do generating backlinks.

Improving the quality of the website traffic to your site involves a carefully planned strategy. Let’s suppose that you have a site dedicated to blue widgets and you wanted to write a post about how to use blue widgets. The first thing you need to assess is whether there is any traffic or advertisers looking for the keyword or derivatives of the word How To Use Blue Widgets. Plug the keyword in the Google Adword Tool and see what the results for that specific keyword are. If the keyword does not pay at least $1.00 or more per click which is roughly 25 cents and have at least 1500 monthly searches, then look at the Alternative Keywords generated by the Google Adword Tool. Once you have found a keyword that satisfies these criteria, you will do the following. This following step is so important, that it amazes me that people have not clued in. You will take whichever of the derivative or alternative keywords satisfy your chosen criteria and use it in the title of your post. You will also want to use the keyword or similar worded keywords in every paragraph of your post, note: don’t add too many paragraphs, generally, you’ll have 3 – 7 paragraphs in a post depending on the length of your post. As an example, in my title, we’ve got How To Improve Website Traffic, as well as Improving the quality of the website traffic in this paragraph and in the paragraph before this one we’ve got improve web site traffic notice that the word web site are two separate words. In the paragraph before that one, we’ve got keyword improving the quality of your website traffic and before that we’ve got the keyword improving traffic to website. My experience is that rewording keywords like this helps Google better understand the meaning of your posts as well as helping Adsense put up more appropriate ads.

Once you’ve chosen your keyword, you need to run a regular Google Search Query in order to see which sites are competing for that keyword. Using a tool like SEOQuake, you will get an immediate idea of the page rank of the sites competing for that respective keyword. As a general rule, you want to see page rank 3 to page rank 0 on the first query page of Google. That means if you see Page Rank 4 and above, you are going to have a more difficult time getting onto page 1 for your selected keyword and that means that you will not be able to improve website traffic as easily as you would normally. Another thing that you need to do is to read the posts from the sites that are on Google page 1 for that respective keyword. This doesn’t mean stealing their post, I am absolutely against plagiarism and if you are involved in blackhat seo you will get caught. What I mean is that you want to get an idea of their keyword selection, in-title and in-post usage as well as any other terms that may act as a helper keyword.

The final thing you need to do in order to improve website traffic is to create your posts intellegently and work on your backlinks. The above information is incredibly powerful stuff and it works very will. How you use this information to make money online is the key to your success as an Internet Marketer.

One of the questions you are bound to ask eventually is how does my Google Page Rank affect website traffic. In a nutshell, the answer is ‘That Depends’, and although hard to believe, a high Page Rank does not guarantee that you will be on Google Page One for your relevant keyword. It’s not hard to test this, all you need to do is run a search query on Google and then check the page rank of the sites for the first 5 – 10 pages and you will soon see that high ranked sites are not necessarily the ones with the highest pagerank. I use a very handy tool called SEOQuake, which you can download free as an addon to your Firefox browser. you can download SEOQuake here, do it because it is an important tool in your Internet Marketing arsenal.

SEOQuake will let you see at a glance the page rank of the sites that are generated during a Google Search, this is vital for you to understand both how Google works, and which type of sites are dominating specific Niches. Now that I’ve told you that page rank will not guarantee you a placement on page of one of a Google Search Query, I need to emphasize that you need to be careful on which keywords you attempt to conquer. That means that if the keyword that you are trying to conquer is a high valued keyword, like ‘Money’, you need to know that many of the sites that rank on page one of Google are High Page Rank sites too. Although this may seem like a bit of a contradiction, it really isn’t. First of all you need to consider that Google has many many people working for them, and many of these people’s jobs are to over-ride Search Engine algorithm. That means that although your site may be better optimized for Google page one for the keyword ‘Money’ and although it may have better incoming backlinks than say a site with a Page Rank of 7, chances are that it probably won’t ever reach page one for the keyword ‘Money’.

The reason for this is that Google, as well as wanting to make as much money as possible from its advertisers, needs to ensure that they put popular sites on page one for specific keywords. This is a balancing act for Google because it wants to give the general public the perception that it wants to be a relevant source of information and not just a money making machine. That means that Google needs to ensure that it keeps popular sites on page one for high valued high ranking keywords in order keep it’s image as a the ‘Best Search Engine In The World’. Think about it this way, Google could make much more money by placing Adsense optimized sites but eventually, it would get a reputation as a search engine that only serves sites that will make it money and in the long run, make less money. You can see their dilemma, because they need to juggle profits on the short and long term.

For this reason alone, it is important that you not try to go for keywords that are high valued high ranking keywords. In general, high valued keywords are keywords with only on word, I gave the example ‘Money’ above, but it could also be ‘Insurance’, ‘Credit’ and so on. Run a search query on those on other high valued keywords and you’ll get the idea of what types of sites Google wants to see on page one.

Another reason that you should not waste your time trying to conquer high valued keywords is that the sites on page one are also playing the same game as you. The only difference is that these company’s have hired professional SEO specialists who’s job it is to keep them on page one. But rest assured, these big players aren’t worried about keeping you, the little guy, from page one, but other big players. For high-valued keywords, it is a battle of giants of Internet Marketing, with Google playing God. Can I prove the above statements? The answer is no, because Google doesn’t share that information. But you can usually deduce that there is a manual, people controlled, aspect to search engine rankings.

In a nutshell, Page rank will not guarantee you page one of Google for your targeted keyword.

This takes us to the next question of ‘Which types of keywords should we be targeting?’. In a nutshell, you need to look at long tail keywords with little competition. There are many factors that come to play, and it would take another few posts to discuss. Until then, forget about page rank, it doesn’t count unless you are a big player on the Internet, in which case you wouldn’t be reading this post. Instead, concentrate on the things that do matter, optimized posts and relevant backlinks from relevant sites or posts.

There are many so called Internet Marketing Gurus out there who talk about keyword selection and how to get site traffic, but the more you read their posts the less it seems that you know. The point is that most of these so-called Internet marketing geniuses either don’t know what they’re talking about or are purposely deceiving newbies in order to sell them something.

What this means is that they rope you in with some tantalizing bits and pieces of information and convince you to purchase something with their affiliate link on it. I for one will never ask you to buy anything unless I use it myself and more often than not, what I recommend will be free. Granted, there are some tools that if you are serious about Internet Marketing you’ll want to purchase, like SEO Elite, which in my opinion is a must have but the fact is, if you are just starting out, you won’t need it.

It seems that almost everyone is baffled about Keyword selection in order to generate web traffic. Keyword selection is not as hard as some would have you believe, in fact, it is very easy, almost too easy. But before we get into keyword selection, we need to discuss how the Internet according to Google is constructed. First of all, in my experience I’ve found that Google organizes its search engine around niches, this is important and you need to take this into consideration if you are going to make any money online. For those of you with any Database management experience, using query languages like SQL, you will understand immediately that everything is based on a hierarchy in a database. That means that you have a primary key that controls all secondary keys. For example, if you are setting up a database for a clothing store, you would set up each primary key such as shirts or pants and then find all of the secondary keys like sizes, colors, brands etc. This means that in order for you database to work efficiently, error free, you need to find the primary key of a specific genre and work your way down, Google works much in the same way. That means that Google will have a primary key like ‘Money’ and then all of the secondary keys associated with it. This is an over-simplification of how Google structures its search queries, but the basic foundation is a very simple hierarchical one.

If we can accept the above as true, then we need to ask the next question which is, ‘How Do I Apply This Information?’. The first thing that you need to know when selecting your keyword is that the Primary Key is pretty much out of bounds to you. That means that many high PR sites or sites with High Google Trust have monopolized these keywords like money, Credit, Insurance etc. This is very useful to you in the sense that you don’t waste a year of your life chasing the unattainable, but also useful in the sense that you now realize that secondary and tertiary keywords are available to you.

Taking the above information into consideration, here’s how you go about selecting the right keywords.

Find the Primary key eg. Money

Find the Secondary Keys eg. Make Money

You now have the working secondary key to work with, this is your starting point and not the final step. You take your primary key and plug it into the Google Adwords Tool which you can find here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

When you do a search on your secondary key ‘Make Money’, Google spits out all of the results that it feels are relevant to that keyword. Google even offers Additional keywords to consider, which is an incredibly powerful tool. These results are the results that keywords that you will be working with, notice that most of them are 3 or more words in length, this is called a long tail keyword and it is the meat and potatoes of online marketers everywhere. I call this the tertiary keyword group, named so because it is the third part of my keyword search. It’s just a name which helps me stay focused, you can call it what you want.

That’s it for today, there’s a lot more to cover in later posts relating to choosing the right keywords from this tertiary group in order to increase Website Traffic.

Search Engine Traffic is the only way to making money online with Adsense. In fact, it is the best way to making any type of income, whether it be with affiliate marketing etc. There are a number of reasons why you need to concentrate on Search Engine Traffic, as I’ve noted on quite a few posts, Search Engine traffic is full of online shoppers while social sites like Digg, Reddit, Stumbleupon is full of bloggers like yourself.

The question you need to ask yourself is what type of web traffic are you looking for? If all you want is traffic then it’s not hard to do, all you need to do is stumble a few posts and reddit a few more and before you know it, you’ll have more web traffic than you’ll know what to do with. The only problem, as you quickly learn, social traffic does not convert well. Not only will other bloggers not purchase anything from you, you’ll be lucky if they even click any of your ads. Worst of all, Google doesn’t trust Social Traffic as a valid site visitor, meaning that any clicks you do get will be measly 10 cents or less clicks for the most part.

What all this means is that you should do what any smart MMOer does, and that is stop chasing social traffic. Do it now, don’t waste your time with it because it will only eat up your precisous time and the rewards are very little. If you don’t believe me, then by all means, go ahead and chase social traffic for the next few months, you will find out eventually how utter useless this time of website traffic really is.

The traffic that you should be chasing is Search Engine Traffic, this is where the money is. But how do you get Search Engine Traffic, you’ve probably already noticed that it is one of the more difficult things to do. First of all, there are many myths regarding which sites get traffic and which ones don’t. One common misconception is that only the high PR (PageRanked) sites get the traffic. Another misconception is that you only get traffic if your domain is an aged domain. These are just misconceptions and don’t really factor in to the reality of search engines as much as you would think.

First of all, if High PR sites were really the only sites that reached page 1 of google for a specific keyword, then it would stand to reason that all of the sites on page 1 of Google are high page ranked sites. The fact is that most of the sites on Google Page 1 for their respective keyword are not High Ranking Sites. The second myth relating to aged websites getting all the traffic. This one isn’t as cut and dry as the high page rank site, but it is still something to consider. First, you do not need an aged site to rank well, but that’s not to say that there is no value in a well aged site. It’s been my experience that Google put more weight on older domains, but that doesn’t mean that you are automatically guaranteed a page 1 rank because of it. Think about it this way, if you have a well aged site and work the SEO side of it, and get all the right backlinks you may end up outranking a newer domain. But here’s the real issue, most website owners know nothing about SEO, and in fact, the older the domain the more likely that the site owner has either already lost touch with Search Engine Optimization or lost his or her site years ago. That’s right, many well aged websites today can be purchased for a small fee from webmasters who have given up on the Make Money Online business because they have made no money at it.

Does that mean that PageRank and an Aged site are useless? No, it doesn’t mean that, and in fact a High Page rank site will often be in a top position for single word keywords. There are a number of reasons for this, but it’s often due to these sites having the funds to purchase professional SEO services from large marketing networks. That means that, even if you wanted to take over the keyword ‘Credit Card’, there’s no chance in hell that you’ll do it. And even if you manage to get on to page 1 for the keyword ‘Credit Card’ chances are you won’t stay on page 1 for very long because the big players will find a way to get you off of page 1.

Getting Search Engine Traffic is all about choosing the right keyword with the right level of competition and creating enough targeted backlinks over a number of months in order to get Google To Trust you, it’s as easy as that. But remember, if the keyword has a very small click value, it isn’t worth going after. We’ll look into keyword selection in the next few posts in order to help you generate more Search Engine Traffic.

Content and Backlinks are essential to helping everyone who wants to get web traffic. Although it may be an elusive undertaking who’s rules keep changing from year to year it is still doable. Anyone starting out in Internet Marketing needs to face the facts that if you want to make money online you need content and backlinks. Gone are the days when you could just stuff keywords into your site, post, headers etc and that was enough to fool the search engines into ranking you. That method no longer works, and in fact, can get you de-indexed by most search engines today.

Content and backlinks are the key to your success in getting visitors to your Website and you need both, the trick is knowing what the dosage is. There are many factors that will dictate how your sites are gauged by the search engines, and it isn’t always possible to know with certainty that you will in fact be able to rank for a specific keyword by following a templated methodology. But what you can do is to use be consistent, using methods that have worked in the past and incorporate them into your overall SEO strategy. The following are examples of what I would do:

You need Content, Original preferred but you may be surprised to find that Google doesn’t always reward originality. Your posts should have your keyword both in the title and in the first two sentences, somewhere in the body and in the last sentence. Generally, don’t over do it with stuffing the keyword and as a general rule, I use it approximately 3 – 5 times per post but not always in the same way as it appears in the title. That means that the phrase ‘Backlinks and Content can help get you Web traffic’ is just as valuable as the title itself, and in many ways says the same thing but just in a different way. I have found that rewriting the title can help you with your SEO.

Second, Make your posts as long as possible, as a standard rule they should be minimum 500 words – 1000 words. You want to add as many synonyms (different words with the same meaning) this will help you attain site visitors. Here’s a hint, go to Google Adword Tool and type in the keyword that you are targeting and run a search, scroll down to the Additional keywords to consider area to get some ideas of the types of synonyms and alternate keywords to consider.

Do this for about 3 months of regular updates in order to start generating Google Trust. That means that you should post at least 2 – 5 times per week for the first 3 months.

During this time, start sending some backlinks to your site. Start slowly, don’t over-do it, that means a link here and there – aim for about 1 – 2 links for the first month, and then increase it to 2 – 3 links the second month and so on until the third month.

As a general rule, you should be getting niche specific backlinks to your posts and not your home page. Think about it this way, your homepage content keeps changing and therefore sending niche specific links to your homepage doesn’t help much. Generally, the only keywords that you should be sending to your homepage are the ones in the site header.

Much of your success will come from the keyword that you chose. For example, if you are trying to get on page 1 for Google for the keyword ‘Credit Card’, forget about it. You should be targeting keywords that have low competition, and I’m not talking about search volume. Keyword search volume and competition are not one and the same, and that means that you may be able to rank better for a keyword with hundreds of thousands of monthly searches over one that has only a small handful. In essence, you need to run a Google search query and analyze who your competition is.

I’ll speak more about this in later posts. Until then, work smarter and not harder and you will find that with the right content and Backlinks, getting Website Traffic will be much easier than you first imagined, and you will eventually start Making Money Online.

There are many different schools of thought on how best to generate web traffic to your site. Often the advice that is given fails to address a major point in ones capacity to generate Internet traffic, and that is the time constraint that binds all of us Internet Marketers. I’ve made a list of things you should be avoiding on your road to generating website traffic.

Exchange Links

Exchanging links is still very popular and many bloggers still insist on spamming other webmasters with the hope of getting a link exchange. But let’s be clear on this, reciprocal link exchanges are of very little benefit to you. This is mainly true because Google is looking for sites that have one way links from other sites. One way links are the best types of links to get because it tells Google that someone enjoyed the content on your site enough to post your link. Unlike a link exchange that tells Google that you are in fact trying to game the system by creating as many backlinks as possible. If you are going to exchange links with other webmasters, it is recommended that you attempt to get to avoid reciprocal links and instead incorporate two or more of your sites to create links. That means that one of your sites will link to the other person’s site and their site will lead to different one of yours. But that’s not all, when exchanging links with other sites make sure that they are both in the same niche or content as the other site. They should share a common subject so that there is continuity in the providing of service and information to what interests your target traffic.

Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchanges like Entrecard of no value to anyone, for many reasons. First, the type of visitor that you are getting to your site is interested in one and one thing only, clicking on your entrecard banner. That means that they are not genuinely interested in clicking your Adsense ads, and that more often than not will leave just as quickly as they arrived. Another reason not to use Entrecard or other types of Traffic Exchange programs is that any Adsense click that you get will be small because Google has no way of knowing the reason that the visitor is on your site clicking Adsense ads. If Google doesn’t know what your site visitors are doing at your site, it will assume that any click on your Adsense ads will not be from someone who is genuinely interested in the ad that they clicked.

Post Submission To Social Websites:

If you can take one thing from this post, it’s that social web traffic, like Reddit, Stumbleupon and Digg are not worth the trouble. Not only do you need to work your butt off in order to drive social traffic to your site, the visitors that do come to your site are just meanderers, meaning that they are not there to click your ads. The other problem with social traffic is that, just like Entrecard, will get the very minimum in Google Adsense payout. That means taht Google doesn’t have anyway to reference a connection between social traffic and the Adsense ads, the result is a small payout on your Adsense Click.

Join Online Communities and Forums

Unless you have time to kill, stay away from Online Communities or Forums unless they are there to help with things like keyword selection, optimization, site optimization and other tips that are important to get the most out of Adsense ads. Otherwise, these online Forums tend to be time wasting places that people go to waste their time when they could have been doing more productive things like creating new sites, content or backlinks.

Purchase Online Seo Products

Most of the products on the market today are directed at newbies who got more money than brains. Do not, I repeat, do not throw your money at the ridiculous Make Money Online Booklets, Seminars, Webinars, DVD’s, CD’s and so on. It’s not hard to see that these MMOers are trying to sell you something that most likely does not work, or is already common knowledge. Think about it for a second, if the information that they’re selling you is so good and is a guaranteed money maker, why aren’t these guys using their own skills to make money instead of pandering their booklets. The answer is that these MMOers are making money online selling you these too good to be true Make Money Online material, their content is often worthless, don’t waste your money on it.

Generating Web Traffic can be achieved, but you need to direct your effort into creating something that makes sense, the Search Engines. Unless you are directing all of your energy to Making Money Online through a search engine, chances are that you are wasting your time, spamming, or foolish. How not to generate web traffic is just as important to Making money online as is the concept of How To Generate Web Traffic.

Most people starting out in Making Money Online find that Getting Web Site Traffic, vis a vis good backlinks, is the hardest thing to do. Make no mistake about it, if you are a seasoned Internet Marketer, it is obviously easier for you to generate backlinks to your sites because you have most likely developed a large portfolio of websites. But how do people starting out generate backlinks that are of value?

First of all I would like to start out by mentioning that you need to focus on many forms of backlinks and not just one in order to get web traffic. Furthermore, you need to alternate your backlink text in order to avoid Google suspicion. What this means is that you need to work on backlinks from many different angles as well as using many different anchored text.

The following are a few options that I recommend:

Post Comments: Although I’ve mentioned previously that Post Comments do not hold much weight with Google, that’s not to say that it is completely useless. Post Comments are also a good way to alternate links back to your site to help avoid Google suspicion and keep your competition off track.

Create your own blogger, hubpages etc. etc.: There are literally hundreds if not thousands of sites out there that will let you have a blogger account for free. There are many Internet Marketers that use this method but I do need to point out a few things with using these types of blog accounts. First, if the site goes down, or the admin of the site doesn’t like what you’re posting, you can lose all of your work and have no say in it. Second, in order to build up these blogs, you will literally need to invest many months and years creating these blogs in order to build up enough PR. PR (Google Page rank) factors in quite highly on linkbacks, that means that if you have a link from a PR8 site, for example, it will help you immensely to getting onto page 1 of Google for that specific keyword. Therefore you need to build many of these sites, and you need to keep them active and build them to generate enough PR in order to link back to your money site.

Article Marketing: Article Marketing is without doubt, one of the best ways in which you can get your sites on Google Page 1. There are many websites offereing Article Marketing, but the one I use and recommend is this one. It’s a great site and best of all it’s free, meaning that you can literally build thousands of links back to your site for free. Be careful not to build up links too quickly or you will attract Google suspicion.

Another site offering links is ConnectContent , granted, there is a small monthly fee of about $12.00 U.S, which is a drop in the bucket compared to other sites. Their system works on a credit system where you put links on your sites posts and get credit based on PR, this credit allows you to keep receiving backlinks from other Internet Marketers. You can generate a substantial amount of backlinks but not as much as the Article Marketing, that said, you can often get some pretty good PR3 and Up backlinks which is hard to come by on the Article Marketing spectrum.

Link Networks like LinkVana and Backlink Solutions: Sites like these have been the standard for many MMOers, but the problem with them is that, allegedly, Google Spies have been infiltrating these networks so the effectiveness of their backlinks may be very low.

Use Your Own Self-hosted Sites: I realize this is a no brainer, but if you have built up enough self hosted sites you can use those as well.

That’s it in a nutshell. As you can see, I’ve left many other forms of backlinks because I personally don’t find them useful or worth the trouble. For example, I do not recommend that you spam webmasters with link requests, I don’t recommend that you swap links with people on a one for one exchange, I do not recommend using link directories.

What I do recommend in order for you to get links and eventually generated Web Site Traffic to make money with Adsense is to get targeted backlinks from posts on other people’s or your own sites that have been optimized for certain keywords. That said, make sure you alter your keywords and the types of posts leading back to your site, don’t over-do it on the SEO spectrum because Google wants things to look natural, so keep things looking natural and you’ll be just fine.

That’s a short snippet on how to Get Web Site Traffic, I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll be writing more about this stuff in later posts.

There are numerous websites on the Internet pretending to tell you how to Get Site Traffic to make money with Adsense. The problem is that many of these sites will usually point you to useless places like social networks like Mixx and Reddit. Anyone who has ever attempted to social blog will be intimately familiar with what I’m relating, they realize that although you can generate tons of traffic, the traffic itself is completely and utterly useless.

Social networks don’t work because they are inherently flawed. That means that the Site Traffic that ends up on your site through a social network cannot be correctly processed by Google. Google has no way of knowing what your social traffic visitors was searching for when they visit your site. Let me explain, when you enter a search query into a search engine, Google specifically, that search query is cached and immediately understood by Google’s algorithms, which in turn tells Google what you are searching for when you enter a specific site. For example, if you are looking for Red Slippers and type the search query Red Slippers into Google search box, Google will spit out all of the sites that it thinks is most relevant to the search query Red Slippers. When you click on a the link leading you into one of those sites, Google collects that search information and uses it to determine how it will pay you when you click on an Adsense Ad. For example, if you came into my site looking for Red Slippers, but my website is not properly optimized for the keyword, ‘Red Slipper’, but Blue Widgets, then the Adsense Ad that gets shown on my site will be Blue Widgets related, meaning that I won’t get paid much for that Adsense click. This is why its important to make your backlinks correlate with your post content and that is also why forcing your way into page one of Google for an non-optimized post makes the Google Monster angry. They don’t want their advertisers getting poorly targeted traffic and if you’ve forced your way onto page 1 with non-optimized post content, Google loses money when the wrong Adsense Ads are served on your site. That means that both the Advertiser who’s Ad was served on your site, and the Advertisers who’s keywords were queried are losing out. In essence, the Advertiser who’s Ad was served on your site, get’s non-targeted click on their Ad, they lose money and don’t convert well. The Advertiser who is looking for people searching for a specific keyword gets cheated because they are missing out on having their ads served to that particular individual. In the end Google loses money and so do you.

OK, I digressed a little there. Getting back to Social traffic, the same principle applies to Social Traffic because anyone coming into your site from say, Digg, clicks on an Adsense Ad on your site, Google doesn’t have any information on what they are looking for and just assumes that it was an unrelated search query and pays you next to nothing for your Adsense click.

This leads us into some very important factors that need to be addressed. First, it’s apparent that Social Traffic is useless because Google has no way of Gauging it effectively (This may change with Google’s new interest-based advertising, although at this stage I don’t see Interest Based Advertising taking a big chunk of the types of Ads that are fed on your site, although that’s still to be seen). At this point, we’ll just assume that Interest-based Adsense Ads are still small and inconsequential and therefore we need to focus on optimizing our posts to coincide with the search queries that people are landing on our sites for. Optimally, the best way to verify whether you are getting the correct ads is to visit your own site and see what type of ads are being shown. Although there are many factors on which ads will be served on your website, much of that is based on your post content.

What does all this mean? In a nutshell, you need to ensure that the backlinks that you are getting are related to the content on your site and that the content is optimized for that specific keyword in order to generate the right type of Adsense Ads. That means, don’t get site traffic through social sites because Google cannot gauge what it is that you as a social blogger are looking for, and therefore cannot justify charging an advertiser a premium price for a click from a social blogger. What should become immediately clear is that you should be attempting to getting links to the posts themselves, as opposed to the Index Page of your site. The reason for this is that the content on your site changes all the time and therefore your Index Page main entry keyword may not be relevant to the current post on your site, that means a low paying Adsense Ad.

OK That’s it for now, We’ll get back to Keywords on the next post.

There’s a misconception that getting Google Traffic is something only heavily invested Internet Marketers are able to do. For those of you who have created websites only to find that you are not getting any web visitors at all, this is an understandable belief. The problem is that it is not completely accurate to state that only the big boys make money on the Internet, in fact, anyone can make money, regardless of your financial marketing power and experience.

To emphasize, you want to go after Google Traffic and forget the rest. That’s right, you want to forget about the Yahoo’s the Bings and so on, and the reason is that if you want to make money with Adsense, you need to make Google Happy. Another reason to trying to rank for Google is that Google is the biggest, most frequently used Search Engine on the planet, and that means there are more people using Google than the others. More people searching the Internet, means more money in your pocket if you can divert some of that web traffic to your site.

As mentioned in a previous post, you need to build links to your site, using the anchor text of the keyword that you are trying to rank for. That is a simple enough explanation of how to rank for a keyword, but why is it that it isn’t often all that easy to do? I’m sure many of you have been trying to rank some keywords to no avail and regardless of how many anchored keywords you’re getting, you don’t seem to be getting anywhere.

The problem with most people trying to make money online with Adsense is that they attempt to go for keywords with heavy competition and that is where most people fail. The keywords that you should be going for are the ones that have little to no competition. That means that you should be going after the Long Tail Keywords, and what this is in a nutshell is a keyword that has 3 or more words in it, for example, Make Money Online is a long tail keyword. The reason you want to search out long tail keywords is because often, but not always, one or two word keyword has been completely dominated by heavily financially backed Internet Marketers. That means that if you are trying to rank on page one of Google for the keyword Insurance, Credit Cards, Money etc. you are fighting a battle that has already been lost before it began.

Now you know that you are going for long tail keywords and not the one or two words keywords, what next? Before you decide to put all your time and money into boosting up a long tail keyword, you need to get organized. For starters, you need to do some keyword research in order to find out which keywords are worth fighting for and which ones are useless. What this means is that not all keywords are worth ranking for, because advertisers on Google’s Adwords network are not bidding on those keywords, and therefore you will get very little money for your clicks. I’ll show you in a later post on how to do a little keyword research, I’ll be giving you information on things that I wish I knew when I first started, so stay tuned.

In the meanwhile, for those of you who are trying to Get Google Traffic and are already familiar with some of the concepts that I’ve outlined above and are just looking to free backlinks, click here to join a very cool and free backlink network.
