One of the questions you are bound to ask eventually is how does my Google Page Rank affect website traffic. In a nutshell, the answer is ‘That Depends’, and although hard to believe, a high Page Rank does not guarantee that you will be on Google Page One for your relevant keyword. It’s not hard to test this, all you need to do is run a search query on Google and then check the page rank of the sites for the first 5 – 10 pages and you will soon see that high ranked sites are not necessarily the ones with the highest pagerank. I use a very handy tool called SEOQuake, which you can download free as an addon to your Firefox browser. you can download SEOQuake here, do it because it is an important tool in your Internet Marketing arsenal.

SEOQuake will let you see at a glance the page rank of the sites that are generated during a Google Search, this is vital for you to understand both how Google works, and which type of sites are dominating specific Niches. Now that I’ve told you that page rank will not guarantee you a placement on page of one of a Google Search Query, I need to emphasize that you need to be careful on which keywords you attempt to conquer. That means that if the keyword that you are trying to conquer is a high valued keyword, like ‘Money’, you need to know that many of the sites that rank on page one of Google are High Page Rank sites too. Although this may seem like a bit of a contradiction, it really isn’t. First of all you need to consider that Google has many many people working for them, and many of these people’s jobs are to over-ride Search Engine algorithm. That means that although your site may be better optimized for Google page one for the keyword ‘Money’ and although it may have better incoming backlinks than say a site with a Page Rank of 7, chances are that it probably won’t ever reach page one for the keyword ‘Money’.

The reason for this is that Google, as well as wanting to make as much money as possible from its advertisers, needs to ensure that they put popular sites on page one for specific keywords. This is a balancing act for Google because it wants to give the general public the perception that it wants to be a relevant source of information and not just a money making machine. That means that Google needs to ensure that it keeps popular sites on page one for high valued high ranking keywords in order keep it’s image as a the ‘Best Search Engine In The World’. Think about it this way, Google could make much more money by placing Adsense optimized sites but eventually, it would get a reputation as a search engine that only serves sites that will make it money and in the long run, make less money. You can see their dilemma, because they need to juggle profits on the short and long term.

For this reason alone, it is important that you not try to go for keywords that are high valued high ranking keywords. In general, high valued keywords are keywords with only on word, I gave the example ‘Money’ above, but it could also be ‘Insurance’, ‘Credit’ and so on. Run a search query on those on other high valued keywords and you’ll get the idea of what types of sites Google wants to see on page one.

Another reason that you should not waste your time trying to conquer high valued keywords is that the sites on page one are also playing the same game as you. The only difference is that these company’s have hired professional SEO specialists who’s job it is to keep them on page one. But rest assured, these big players aren’t worried about keeping you, the little guy, from page one, but other big players. For high-valued keywords, it is a battle of giants of Internet Marketing, with Google playing God. Can I prove the above statements? The answer is no, because Google doesn’t share that information. But you can usually deduce that there is a manual, people controlled, aspect to search engine rankings.

In a nutshell, Page rank will not guarantee you page one of Google for your targeted keyword.

This takes us to the next question of ‘Which types of keywords should we be targeting?’. In a nutshell, you need to look at long tail keywords with little competition. There are many factors that come to play, and it would take another few posts to discuss. Until then, forget about page rank, it doesn’t count unless you are a big player on the Internet, in which case you wouldn’t be reading this post. Instead, concentrate on the things that do matter, optimized posts and relevant backlinks from relevant sites or posts.

Most people starting out in Making Money Online find that Getting Web Site Traffic, vis a vis good backlinks, is the hardest thing to do. Make no mistake about it, if you are a seasoned Internet Marketer, it is obviously easier for you to generate backlinks to your sites because you have most likely developed a large portfolio of websites. But how do people starting out generate backlinks that are of value?

First of all I would like to start out by mentioning that you need to focus on many forms of backlinks and not just one in order to get web traffic. Furthermore, you need to alternate your backlink text in order to avoid Google suspicion. What this means is that you need to work on backlinks from many different angles as well as using many different anchored text.

The following are a few options that I recommend:

Post Comments: Although I’ve mentioned previously that Post Comments do not hold much weight with Google, that’s not to say that it is completely useless. Post Comments are also a good way to alternate links back to your site to help avoid Google suspicion and keep your competition off track.

Create your own blogger, hubpages etc. etc.: There are literally hundreds if not thousands of sites out there that will let you have a blogger account for free. There are many Internet Marketers that use this method but I do need to point out a few things with using these types of blog accounts. First, if the site goes down, or the admin of the site doesn’t like what you’re posting, you can lose all of your work and have no say in it. Second, in order to build up these blogs, you will literally need to invest many months and years creating these blogs in order to build up enough PR. PR (Google Page rank) factors in quite highly on linkbacks, that means that if you have a link from a PR8 site, for example, it will help you immensely to getting onto page 1 of Google for that specific keyword. Therefore you need to build many of these sites, and you need to keep them active and build them to generate enough PR in order to link back to your money site.

Article Marketing: Article Marketing is without doubt, one of the best ways in which you can get your sites on Google Page 1. There are many websites offereing Article Marketing, but the one I use and recommend is this one. It’s a great site and best of all it’s free, meaning that you can literally build thousands of links back to your site for free. Be careful not to build up links too quickly or you will attract Google suspicion.

Another site offering links is ConnectContent , granted, there is a small monthly fee of about $12.00 U.S, which is a drop in the bucket compared to other sites. Their system works on a credit system where you put links on your sites posts and get credit based on PR, this credit allows you to keep receiving backlinks from other Internet Marketers. You can generate a substantial amount of backlinks but not as much as the Article Marketing, that said, you can often get some pretty good PR3 and Up backlinks which is hard to come by on the Article Marketing spectrum.

Link Networks like LinkVana and Backlink Solutions: Sites like these have been the standard for many MMOers, but the problem with them is that, allegedly, Google Spies have been infiltrating these networks so the effectiveness of their backlinks may be very low.

Use Your Own Self-hosted Sites: I realize this is a no brainer, but if you have built up enough self hosted sites you can use those as well.

That’s it in a nutshell. As you can see, I’ve left many other forms of backlinks because I personally don’t find them useful or worth the trouble. For example, I do not recommend that you spam webmasters with link requests, I don’t recommend that you swap links with people on a one for one exchange, I do not recommend using link directories.

What I do recommend in order for you to get links and eventually generated Web Site Traffic to make money with Adsense is to get targeted backlinks from posts on other people’s or your own sites that have been optimized for certain keywords. That said, make sure you alter your keywords and the types of posts leading back to your site, don’t over-do it on the SEO spectrum because Google wants things to look natural, so keep things looking natural and you’ll be just fine.

That’s a short snippet on how to Get Web Site Traffic, I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll be writing more about this stuff in later posts.
