When I first started out on the Internet, I thought that making money online would be an easy thing to do. Perhaps your story is the same as mine. I purchased a hosting service, chose a domain name and started writing posts. I did so religiously too, virtually every day I would write a 100 – 200 word post thinking that eventually, Google would see how hard I worked and start sending me web traffic. Although it sounds naive now, that is how I viewed SEO at the time, I figured that my hard work would eventually be rewarded by the all caring and righteous Google. Realizing, after a couple of months that I was getting only a handful of visitors per day, I then did what many of you are currently doing, and started chasing social traffic. I began to stumble, Digg, Reddit my way to one thousand visitors per day, but soon realized  that I was making absolutely no money with this method. Perhaps your story sounds similar.

In my quest to making money online with website traffic, I ignored my instinct which was telling me that social traffic was not making me any money online and kept plugging away at it. Let me tell you, there is a whole world of social traffic groups who have been permanently lost in cyberspace due to their fanaticism in chasing social traffic. Eventually, seeing no financial rewards for all my hard work, I dropped out of all the social sites groups and concentrated on the Search Engines.

I think I was more unlucky than most, because although I started optimizing my site for Search Engine Traffic, I had failed to do my homework in getting Search Engine Traffic for high paying keywords. Instead, my site was optimized for worthless keywords that weren’t making me much money with Adsense. At one point, I was ready to get rid of Adsense altogether, I was tired of working my butt off with no rewards.

Perhaps you too made a lot of mistakes in making money with search engine traffic as I did. One thing is for sure, I made more mistakes than most, but if I’ve got one thing working for me is my stubbornness. I kept refusing to give in, knowing that I could make money online with Google Traffic if I just kept learning, and plugging away at it. Eventually, I learned the right methods to make money with Adsense, and kept repeating it until I began to see a steady stream of income. When I think back on how many hours I’ve wasted making all the wrong mistakes, it’s a wonder I didn’t quit sooner, but I’m glad that I kept tweaking my sites for Adsense.

The reason I’ve detailed my experiences is to show you that even someone like me, who made so many, if not all the mistakes in making money with traffic can make money online. but what I’m also attempting to convey is that if you decide to chase social traffic like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit etc, you too will be wasting your time and resources and eventually learn that there is no money with that type of site traffic.

I’ll be bringing you more information on how to make money online with web traffic, but until then I hope that you heed my warning and get out of the social networks for your own sake.

People trying to make money online need to get their heads out of the ‘I need tons of website traffic in order to make money’, this is a myth that has unfortunately permeated throughout the web. Most of the self-anointed Internet Marketing Gurus on the net today are all selling this idea that you need a lot of website traffic, the problem is that you could be getting  100,000 visitors to your site per day, but unless they are clicking your ads, and unless your posts are optimized to generate the right ads, and unless they are coming from Search Engines and unless your website traffic is clicking on the right ads for a search query that has value, then you won’t make very much with that traffic.

Another factor that people miss when trying to make money online with website traffic is that their sites are too pretty or too scary, either one will lower the number of clicks you get on your Adsense account. I’m not going to go indepth into this concept today, but what I will tell you is that you should be trying to make your site as simple as possible without it looking like a Made For Adsense site. That means that you want people to stay on your site long enough to get them to click your Adsense ads, and not either scare them away or keep them on your site any longer than necessary. I’m not suggesting taht you create a bogus, poorly written site with nothing of value, what I am suggesting is that you take advantage of the advertising methodology that has existed for some time and that is to give your website traffic what they’re looking for.

What you do not want your website traffic to do is to navigate away from the landing page under any circumstances other than clicking one of you ads. If that means that you need to revamp your site to make it more Adsense friendly, then by all means go for it, but remember, if your sites are too ugly people will just get out of there and not click on your ad. That means that you don’t want any visual distractions that draws people’s attention away from your Adsense ads, nor do you want a site that is impossible to navigate and cluttered. Think about it this way, if you website was your home and website traffic were your guests, if your house was too awesome, your guests would never leave. They would just meander around it (Your Website) looking through your stuff? Or if your home was cluttered and messy, your guests would probably not even walk in, and if they did they would walk out just as quickly and not check out all the great things that you wanted them to see (Your Adsense ads). But if your home was plain and clean, nothing spectacular, and it had something amazing in it, like a great piece of art (Your Adsense ad), your guests would be drawn to that like bees to honey.

In closing, It’s not about the quantity of website traffic, it’s about the quality. Getting the right traffic to your site and keeping them there long enough to click on your ad is the primary way that many Adsense Internet Marketers make money, and you can too.

The question you need to ask yourself is what type of web traffic are you looking for? If all you want is traffic then it’s not hard to do, all you need to do is stumble a few posts and reddit a few more and before you know it, you’ll have more web traffic than you’ll know what to do with. The only problem, as you quickly learn, social traffic does not convert well. Not only will other bloggers not purchase anything from you, you’ll be lucky if they even click any of your ads. Worst of all, Google doesn’t trust Social Traffic as a valid site visitor, meaning that any clicks you do get will be measly 10 cents or less clicks for the most part.

What all this means is that you should do what any smart MMOer does, and that is stop chasing social traffic. Do it now, don’t waste your time with it because it will only eat up your precisous time and the rewards are very little. If you don’t believe me, then by all means, go ahead and chase social traffic for the next few months, you will find out eventually how utter useless this time of website traffic really is.

The traffic that you should be chasing is Search Engine Traffic, this is where the money is. But how do you get Search Engine Traffic, you’ve probably already noticed that it is one of the more difficult things to do. First of all, there are many myths regarding which sites get traffic and which ones don’t. One common misconception is that only the high PR (PageRanked) sites get the traffic. Another misconception is that you only get traffic if your domain is an aged domain. These are just misconceptions and don’t really factor in to the reality of search engines as much as you would think.

First of all, if High PR sites were really the only sites that reached page 1 of google for a specific keyword, then it would stand to reason that all of the sites on page 1 of Google are high page ranked sites. The fact is that most of the sites on Google Page 1 for their respective keyword are not High Ranking Sites. The second myth relating to aged websites getting all the traffic. This one isn’t as cut and dry as the high page rank site, but it is still something to consider. First, you do not need an aged site to rank well, but that’s not to say that there is no value in a well aged site. It’s been my experience that Google put more weight on older domains, but that doesn’t mean that you are automatically guaranteed a page 1 rank because of it. Think about it this way, if you have a well aged site and work the SEO side of it, and get all the right backlinks you may end up outranking a newer domain. But here’s the real issue, most website owners know nothing about SEO, and in fact, the older the domain the more likely that the site owner has either already lost touch with Search Engine Optimization or lost his or her site years ago. That’s right, many well aged websites today can be purchased for a small fee from webmasters who have given up on the Make Money Online business because they have made no money at it.

Does that mean that PageRank and an Aged site are useless? No, it doesn’t mean that, and in fact a High Page rank site will often be in a top position for single word keywords. There are a number of reasons for this, but it’s often due to these sites having the funds to purchase professional SEO services from large marketing networks. That means that, even if you wanted to take over the keyword ‘Credit Card’, there’s no chance in hell that you’ll do it.  And even if you manage to get on to page 1 for the keyword ‘Credit Card’ chances are you won’t stay on page 1 for very long because the big players will find a way to get you off of page 1.

Getting Search Engine Traffic is all about choosing the right keyword with the right level of competition and creating enough targeted backlinks over a number of months in order to get Google To Trust you, it’s as easy as that. But remember, if the keyword has a very small click value, it isn’t worth going after. One of the biggest questions facing bloggers today is how do I ‘get site traffic’? That is truly the fundamental problem facing us all, but we must remember that all traffic is not created equal. In fact, unless your traffic is coming straight out of a search engine query, preferably a Google Search Engine Query, making money online from Adsense will be difficult.

Adsense is what we’re going for here, you need to optimise for Adsense Ads if you want to make easy money. After all, Google is the world’s largest advertiser and their Adsense program makes it easy for almost anyone to get a piece of the money pie. There are many things that you can do to make money online, including site optimization and post optimization, but if you are not getting backlinks, very few people will visit your site.

But first, let’s be clear, when I talk about getting people to visit your site, I’m talking about people coming in from a search engine query and not a social blogs. I’ll talk more about social blogs down the road. This site is dedicated to those of you who are trying to make money from Google Adsense, and therefore we will not get into Affiliate advertising very much. In essence, If you want to make money, you need backlinks, simple as that. The problem for most people is that they do not have a ready list of dozens if not hundreds of blogs needed in order to get their websites into page one of Google. For those of you who are new to the MMO (Make Money Online) business, then you need to get used to the fact that Google is the big player in town, and these are the guys you need to impress in order to make money. Basically, Getting backlinks is one of the most important, if not the most important factor in getting your site ranked in order to get site traffic.

It’s obvious that although we need backlinks, getting them is not easy at all. That’s not to say that you can’t go around bribing webmasters with reciprocal links, or spending half a day visiting other people’s blogs and leaving comments, in order to get some comment juice back your way. The problem with this approach is that it is time consuming, and at the end of the day, all you have to show for all your hard work is a measly comment link or reciprocal link from another blog owner, neither of which pulls much weight with Google.

If you read this far, you’re probably already asking which type of links you should be going for. In a nutshell, you want to get in-post links, that means that you want a link pointing back to your site from another person’s website. But that’s not the end of it, you also need to make sure that the keyword that’s linking back to you is relevant to your site and that the site that’s linking back to you has similar content to yours. And, if possible, having the post title similar to the keyword that is pointing back to your site. I don’t know about you, but if you are planning on getting these juicy types of links pointing back to your site, it’s not going to happen with comment links, or reciprocal links.

There are a number of strategies that you can incorporate into your link building campaign, but many of the services on the market today will cost you money. And if you are new to blogging, let’s face it, money is probably not readily available commodity.
